Parent engagement survey
The new parent engagement survey will go live on Monday 7 September. This year it will be coordinated centrally by the data and reporting team to remove the additional administration workload for all schools. Completion rates and results from the survey will not be used as measures of our school’s performance. This is a great opportunity to get valuable insights from parents of our students and has been specifically designed to gauge how parents engage with their children’s learning.
- Parents will receive a direct link (unique to our school) via email or SMS on 7 September
- The survey will be open for 3 weeks
- Parents will be sent a reminder email or SMS before the survey closes on 25 September
- Survey data will be sent to leaders in October to support school improvement planning.
Business and Economics
As part of a Business and Economics unit, some year 6/7 students will be selling products on Friday 25 September (last day of term). There will be a variety of stalls including foods, drinks, crafts and games. Some of the products for sale will include nachos, pancakes, brownies, cupcakes, milkshakes, home made lemonade, slime, scrunchies, comics, guess the number of lollies in the lolly jar, electronic games and more! Each stall will be open from 9.30am-11.45am with prices ranging from $1 to $4. Profits from the Year 6/7 stalls will go towards the year 2021 6/7 Canberra Camp. Some students from other year levels will also be supported by class teachers and Sarah French to plan and provide additional stalls.
Festival of Music
The Warradale Primary School Choir has been busy learning the repertoire for the 2020 Festival of Music. This year, instead of attending a combined performance, students will have the opportunity to attend the Marion Cinema on 23 September (Wednesday of Week 10) from 11.30am, where they will join other choirs who will be in cinemas around the state in a virtual ‘Festival Sing’. The Festival of Music team are also making a movie that will consist of the seven songs set up in a 60-minute package and our choir students have shared photos that will be included in the movie.
Sports Day
Due to on-going COVID regulations, all schools are having to make local decisions regarding sports days and other major events for the remainder of the year. The health and safety of students, staff and community is the number one priority. As communicated in last week’s update, we will unfortunately not be inviting parents into the school for our Sports Day on Thursday 24 September. Plans will be discussed with Governing Council this coming Monday night, including appropriate provisions and allowances for students who may require a parent to be present for health or medical reasons. We know that this is a disappointing situation for many, but the circumstances are unprecedented and the decision based on what our staff can reasonably control and manage within current COVID guidelines. Thank you for your understanding and support with these arrangements, we will do our best to capture as many images and videos as possible for sharing via Seesaw and our school website.
Indigenous art projects
As part of her Aboriginal Education Teacher (AET) role, Stacey Konidaris has initiated a collaborative art project involving our ATSI students and a number of their classmates.Through the engagement of an amazing indigenous artist by the name of Cedric Varcoe, three large murals are being created that will help celebrate local indigenous cultures and beautify our school. A similar project to capture and promote other cultures and backgrounds represented in our diverse school community is also being planned by Madeline Tarzia and her wonderful EALD support team. We can’t wait to see the finished works and get them on display!
